Episode 10 of Lateral Listening gives us an open door into the sounding world of Dr Leah Barclay.

Curated by Tessa Elieff for the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), each episode of Lateral Listening presents an Australian artist for your auditory delight. Primary focus for this series is genres associated with/including sound art and experimental musics, with the intent to bring to light the extraordinary caliber of Australian artists who work within these realms.

The compositions of Leah Barclay include works that premiered at the Listen (n) Symposium (USA), Encounters India Festival, the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Noosa Regional Gallery.

Using both processed and ‘natural’ recordings, Barclay reflects the growing political and environmental concerns of a contemporary field recordist and composer. “Narmada Prelude’, illustrates the global reach of such work, with the frightening commonality in ramifications of water security between Australia and India, providing a reflective context – placing us (Australia) firmly in the holistic realm of the world’s ecology.
