Solo Performance at KCO Sydney

Solo Performance at KCO Sydney

On May 23rd 2012, experimental musician and artist Leah Barclay will perform a solo show at pARTy on the Park, a dynamic cultural program produced by the Korean Cultural Office in Sydney. The performance will feature a series of intercultural works composed since her Asialink residency at Art Center Nabi in Seoul, South Korea. These electroacoustic compositions fuse Korean traditional music with the infinite possibilities of technology creating an immersive sonic impression of Seoul. She has collaborated with the likes of master taegum artist Hyelim Kim, leading Korean percussionist Yoonsang Choi and pansori artist Jung Bong Park to bring these compositions to life.

The works feature sound recordings from across the city of Seoul ranging from the serenity of the Buddhist temple bells to the unnerving civil defence drill siren; a monthly reminder the country is still at war. The program of works reveal some of the enticing sonic layers of the city and the intense contrast that still exist in Seoul today. The field recordings in this performance have been extensively processed to create abstract soundscapes that intertwine with the surging energy of the city and whispers of the past.
